Skype Tv app will no longer available

Skype, the Microsoft-claimed video calling service, has unobtrusively declared that it will no more offer an application for smart TVs beginning in June. This news was announced on a support page with the explanation that now a day smartphones and tablets are more popular for communication on skype hence they are killing skype app for Smart TVs.

Skype for smart TVs was first released in 2010 and was pre-installed in popular smart TV brands like Samsung and LG. The customers of other brands like Sony, Panasonic and Sharp, was able to download it from the store. The Skype app for smart tv was not so powerful for communication as it sounds. It was somehow tricky to setup.

Over the years, users have changed the way they use Skype, with the majority accessing it from a mobile device – including when in the living room. We want to make sure we prioritize delivering the best possible experience to the platforms our users are asking for, which is why we’ve decided to focus our efforts in other areas while supporting key functionality on Skype for TV for as long as possible.
